 District Nursing Services

We employ 14 registered nurses who work throughout the wider Hurunui District, providing district nursing services to the areas surrounding the Amberley, Cheviot, Waikari and Amuri Health Centres.

Hurunui District Nursing provides community nursing for peoople who choose to remain in their own homes, rather than move to hospital or a rest home, and for people who require additional support after surgery or an accident, and cannot easily get to their usual medical centre.

Physiotherapist

Corrie Scrivener holds physiotherapy clinics Tuesdays and Fridays from 11am to 6pm.

Apart from providing general physiotherapy for back, neck, joint pains and sport injuries, Corrie is qualified in acupuncture, able to give exercise prescription including pilates exercises and provides therapeutic massage.

 

Podiatrist

Gay Stenning who owns and operates Merivale Podiatry holds regular clinics at  the Health Centre, usually on a Thursday betwen 10am-4.30pm.  

 

Vasectomy Clinic

Dr Phil Airey is avaliable for vasectomy clinics at the Health Centre.  Dr Phil Airey has now performed more than 9,300 vasectomies. The technique he uses does not involve either knife or stitches.

 

 BIC  (Mild to Moderate Mental Health)

Sue Herber is a brief intervention co-ordinator, offering up to five free sessions of counseling for enrolled patients with mild to moderate mental problems, e.g anxiety, post natal depression, work stress or depression relating to financial worries, work stress or a chronic illness diagnosis.

Joan sees patients on a Wednesday via a referral from the Health Centre.

 

Mental Health Liaison

Susan Kovaks (Psychiatric Nurse) provides adults with severe mental health difficulties access to brief intervention, service coordination and assisted access to secondary services.  Susan works on referral from the Health Centre.

 

Appetite For Life

Appetite for life is a program for women who want to improve their family's health though a more developed understanding of nutrition

Programs involve seven two hour sessions with 10 to 12 participants.
